Accessing Cannabis as Medicine.
Accessing Cannabis as Medicine under the ACMPR.
There are approximately 140,000 Canadians currently using cannabis as medicine through the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR). This represents a huge increase from a total of only 200 patients in 2001 and 38,000 licensed patients in 2013.
In Manitoba (MB) alone over the past three years, there has been a complete paradigm shift regarding the use of medical cannabis. In 2016, there were at least 168 individually licensed MB doctors prescribing cannabis to their patients, compared to only two such doctors in 2014.
Despite these growing numbers, there are still so many Manitobans that have either been flat-out rejected by their current doctor or those that are simply too nervous to even have an exploratory conversation with them to discuss whether cannabis is a possible treatment option.
You should never feel uncomfortable having a meaningful medical conversation with your doctor. At the end of the day, it’s up to each of us to self-advocate and ensure that we feel as confident and comfortable as possible with the treatments we’re receiving and the medications we’re using.
If for any reason, your doctor refuses to discuss the use of medical cannabis with you, simply ask them whether they would be willing to provide a referral to another local doctor that is willing to discuss this option with you. If they agree, please contact the Delta 9 Lifestyle Cannabis Clinic and we’ll happily meet with you to discuss your options.
